Loot Crate Unboxing – August 2015

Greetings, readers!  I realize I am sorely overdue on this post, but I’ve been quite busy with a family vacation and home improvement things.  My apologies to any of you whom have been anxiously awaiting this unboxing.  This month (last month), we have another sequel theme: Villains 2.

As you can see, loot quantity this month is on the low end.  However, the quality has not suffered one bit, starting with that cool apron from 50/Fifty.  I’ll be honest: I haven’t seen Breaking Bad yet.  It’s on my to-do list, but so are a lot of shows on Netflix.  That said, this apron is pretty cool and lightweight.  It’s a nice size, and obviously features the logo for Los Pollos Hermanos, from the aforementioned show.  I look forward to getting the reference some day.

Next, we have an exclusive wooden Joker figure.  This is a rather unique piece from DC Collectibles.  It features some movement of the arms and hands, but also has two different heads that can be swapped out.  One features menacing eyes with “heehee” in red for the mouth, while the other features slightly more maniacal eyes with “haha” for the mouth.  I’ll be using the “haha” face, as it strikes me as a little more Joker than the other face.

One of the reasons for the quantity shrink in this month’s crate is our next item.  A mug from Surreal Entertainment featuring one of two Marvel villains susceptible to sound waves.  In my case, I got Carnage, but other Looters could have gotten Venom instead.  For ceramic mugs, they are pretty good quality and do a decent job of capturing the faces of the symbiotes.  My only qualm is that they’re hand-wash only.  Maybe this will be a mantle mug instead of a drinking mug.

Lastly, we have a very impressive prop replica of a Hydra pin from the Captain America movies.  I’m going to pretend that it’s also tied to Agents of Shield, since that show is amazing and ties directly into the MCU.  The pin is a great replica and is based on digital files used to make actual props on the movie!  How cool is that?  Hail Hydra!!               Oh, sorry, got a little carried away there.

Well, there you have it folks.  Another month of great stuff from our Looting Overlords.  What was your favorite thing this month? Let me know in the comments below!

Loot Crate Unboxing – July 2014

Greetings, friends, and welcome to a double first!  Not only is this my first Loot Crate unboxing post, but it’s my first unboxing ever!  I have been hearing about Loot Crate for some time now, and seen some of the very cool stuff they send out every month to their subscribers.  So, I decided it was about time I signed up.

For those who don’t know, Loot Crate is a subscription to a mailing service that sends you cool stuff once a month.  Each month has a different theme to the contents, which come from a variety of fandoms and showcase various big-name and small-name artists and companies.  For this month, the theme was Villains, and my first Crate does not disappoint.

The Joki t-shirt is an original design by Zack Finfrock, an artist who also does the cover art for the Loot Crate magazine included in each box, and the pin inside this month’s box.  It’s a brilliant combination of Loki and the Joker, and perhaps the greatest incarnation of a chaotic evil character in all of comic history.

Keeping with the Joker theme, the two posters on either side of the shirt are from DC Comics & Trends International and feature some fantastic artwork of Joker and Harley in a style very much in the vein of the popular Arkham video games.

The comic fun continues with an exclusive cover of a new series following Rocket Raccoon.  I look forward to reading this issue and finally picking up a comic from the beginning.

I’m not normally a fan of socks with stuff on them, and especially don’t buy any such socks myself.  However, the Deadpool socks from the Crate look pretty nice and feel comfy, so they will likely see some wear.

The Darth Vader key chain by Lucas Film & Plasticolor is a very well done piece.  Again, I don’t normally add a bunch of key chains to my keys, but I’m sure I can find some place to proudly display this item.

That blue and white square in roughly the middle of the picture is a DVD containing a documentary about DC Comics villains.  The magazine says it’s narrated by Christopher Lee, who excels as playing villains himself.  This should be a fun thing to watch!

Last on the list is the Bowser ‘I Want You’ recruitment magnet.  It’s got some lovely artwork of everyone’s favorite royal Koopa.  It will make a lovely addition to my already nerd-magnet-covered refrigerator.

Do you subscribe to Loot Crate?  If so, tell me what your favorite item is from this month’s crate.  If not, and you have the means, I recommend signing up ASAP!
