Loot Crate Unboxing – January 2015

Greetings, and welcome to another Loot Crate Unboxing!  This month’s theme: Rewind.  Grab the keys to the Delorean and let’s go!

Another month of great stuff!
Another month of great stuff!

First up on the list, is a nice addition to any geek’s fancy wardrobe.  The skinny tie from Black Tie Geek is a printed silk tie featuring that arcade classic, Space Invaders.  The tie could go with a wide variety of shirts and suits, given it’s very neutral color scheme.  On a personal note, it’s the only skinny tie I own.

Next, we have a ‘varies by your crate’ piece.  Retro anthropomorphized game cartridges which mash up popular nerd things with retro 10-doh! games from Squid Kids Ink.  I ended up getting the Doctor Who cartridge, which is a clear mash up of our favorite TARDIS-flying Gallofreyan and a certain plumber-turned-doctor.  I’m not sure if items like this are random, but this one seems picked out just for me.

Following that, we have another Loot Crate exclusive alternate cover art comic.  This month, we get issue 001 of the new Marvel Star Wars comic.  While I enjoyed several of the titles that Dark Horse ran for Star Wars, I understand why Disney/Lucasfilm took the rights from Dark Horse.  It makes sense that the Disney/Lucasfilm/Marvel powerhouse would monopolize something like this.  That being said, I do look forward to reading it, and maybe keeping up with it.

Speaking of space and robots, we have a very cool Voltron t-shirt this month.  It’s nothing too fancy, but it is a nice schematic-style print from Flophouse.  I do remember watching some of Voltron and thoroughly enjoying it as a child.  I mean, come on!  Giant robot space tigers that can transform and combine into a super robot?! Yes, please!!

Next, we have a Comic Notebook from Unemployed Philosopher’s Guild.  It’s a 60-page notebook with panels laid out like a comic book.  There are even stencils for the dialogue bubbles!  I’m not much of an artist, but this is a pretty cool thing.

Last, we have another awesome pair of sunglasses.  (Do you remember the last pair we got?)  These black and orange 8-bit sunglasses are quite stylish, given their simple design.  Rated to 400 UV protection, they should do a wonderful protecting your eyes.  It’s times like this I wish I didn’t wear prescription glasses.

What was your favorite piece of loot this month?  Let me know in the comments!
